Captions for Blender renders

Render the animation to a video file first, at 1080 × 1920 for Shorts, then open it in Cuecaps, click Find words and export the captioned MP4. If you'd rather finish in Blender, export the captions as a transparent overlay and place it above your render in the Video Sequencer.

Render for Shorts

  1. In Output Properties, set the resolution to 1080 × 1920 and the frame rate to 30 or 60.
  2. Under Output, choose FFmpeg Video, the MPEG-4 container and H.264.
  3. If the video has narration, set the audio codec to AAC so the voice is in the file.
  4. Render the animation.

Cuecaps opens video files, not image sequences. If you rendered PNG frames, bring them into the Video Sequencer and render them out as one MP4 first.

Caption it in Cuecaps

Add the render to the studio and click Find words. Words like Geometry Nodes, subdivision or bevel are spelled right more often with cloud transcription and a few key terms. Pick a style, check the words, and export the MP4 for Shorts, TikTok or Reels.

Or keep the captions in Blender

  • On Creator, export the captions as a MOV with alpha (PNG codec), the same length as your render.
  • In the Video Sequencer, add your render, then add the overlay as a movie strip on the channel above it.
  • Set the overlay strip's blend to Alpha Over, and render from the sequencer.
  • To edit text by hand instead, export an SRT and use an SRT import add-on, or type text strips yourself.

Questions

Will my render be uploaded?

No. Cuecaps reads and renders the video in your browser, so even long, high-quality renders never leave your computer.

Can I export in 4K?

Yes, on Pro, at up to 60 frames per second. Free and Creator export up to 1080p.

Does it work for tutorials with screen recordings?

Yes. Any video with speech works, whether it's a render, a screen recording or both.
