What Premiere's auto captions do
Speech to Text is built into Premiere: it transcribes the audio in 18 languages, and you turn the transcript into captions, then adjust font, placement and colours or convert them to graphics. Adobe's Speech to Text page describes captions, subtitles and transcripts; it doesn't mention word-by-word highlight styles (checked 29 October 2026).
Cuecaps is built for that look: the spoken word lights up, pops or gets a box, with eight entrance animations and five highlight modes, timed against the waveform to 10 ms.
Add Cuecaps captions to a Premiere edit
- Export your edit from Premiere, or just the part you want captioned.
- Open it in Cuecaps, click Find words and pick a style.
- Export a transparent MOV (Creator or Pro).
- Import the MOV into Premiere and place it on a track above your video. It lines up frame for frame.
Prefer Premiere's own caption track? Export an SRT from Cuecaps, free on every plan, and import it into Premiere.
What it costs
- Premiere on its own: 200 DKK a month including VAT on an annual plan billed monthly (Adobe's price in Denmark, about €27; it varies by country). Speech to Text is built in.
- Cuecaps Creator: €9 a month or €84 a year, VAT included, with transparent MOV and WebM overlays and 300 cloud minutes.
- Cuecaps Pro: €19 a month or €180 a year, with 1440p and 4K overlays up to 60 fps.
You keep Premiere for editing. Cuecaps adds the captions. Sources: adobe.com/products/premiere/plans.html and adobe.com/products/premiere/speech-to-text.html.
Which to use
- Use Premiere's Speech to Text for plain subtitles and closed captions on long videos.
- Use Cuecaps for animated word-by-word captions on Shorts, Reels and TikToks, as an overlay on your Premiere timeline.
Questions
Does Cuecaps replace Premiere Pro?
No. Cuecaps does captions only. Keep cutting in Premiere and bring the captions in as an overlay or an SRT.
Will the overlay line up with my edit?
Yes. Export the overlay at your sequence's frame rate (24, 25, 30 or 60 fps) and place it at the start of the sequence.
Can I put Cuecaps captions on Premiere's caption track?
Yes. Export SRT from Cuecaps and import it into Premiere. You get the words and timing; Premiere's caption styling applies.
Is the transparent overlay free?
It comes with Creator and Pro. The Free plan exports burned-in MP4 and SRT and VTT.
