CapCut captions not working ?

When CapCut's auto captions won't generate, the cause is usually the language setting, music or noise over the voice, a used-up free allowance, or a dropped connection, since CapCut transcribes online. Fix those first. If captions still fail, transcribe the clip in Cuecaps and export it with the captions burned into the picture.

Why CapCut auto captions fail

  • Nothing comes back, or the words are nonsense: the language picked in Auto captions doesn't match the speech, or music drowns out the voice.
  • A network error, or a progress bar that stops moving: CapCut sends the audio to its servers to transcribe it, so a weak connection or a busy server ends the job. Long clips stall more often.
  • An upgrade prompt: in some versions and regions, auto captions count against a free monthly allowance or need CapCut Pro.
  • Captions were made but don't appear: the caption track is switched off, or the captions run past the end of the part you export.

Fix it in CapCut first

  • Update CapCut and restart it. CapCut's own help page names old app versions as a cause.
  • Open Auto captions again and choose the language that is actually spoken before generating.
  • If music sits under the voice, generate the captions before you add the music.
  • Split a long video into shorter parts and caption each one when the progress bar stalls.
  • After a network error, move to a steadier connection and try again a little later.
  • If CapCut asks you to upgrade, check its current plan terms, which have changed more than once.

Captions that always show, made in Cuecaps

Cuecaps can transcribe on your own device, in the browser, so there is no upload queue to stall and no server to time out. The captions are then drawn into the video itself, which no app setting can switch off.

  1. Export your edit from CapCut without captions, or use the original clip.
  2. Add it to the Cuecaps studio, click Find words, set Language to the language spoken and choose On this device or Cloud.
  3. Read through the transcript and click any wrong word to fix it, then run Fix timing from Ctrl+K.
  4. Pick a style such as Bold, export Video (MP4) and upload that file to TikTok, Shorts or Reels.

To keep editing in CapCut, export a Transparent WebM instead and put it on a track above your video. Transparent export is part of the Creator and Pro plans.

On-device transcription has no monthly allowance to run out. You only need a free account when you export, and videos exported on the free plan carry a small Made with cuecaps.com mark.

Questions

Why are my CapCut auto captions in the wrong language?

Auto captions use the language you pick before generating. Delete the captions, choose the right language and generate again, which is quicker than correcting every line.

Are CapCut auto captions free?

It depends on your CapCut version and region, and CapCut has changed it before, so check the app itself. On-device transcription in Cuecaps is free with no monthly limit.

Why do my CapCut captions disappear in the export?

Check that the caption track is switched on and that the captions end before the video does. If they still go missing, export without them and burn captions in with Cuecaps.

Can I use Cuecaps captions inside CapCut?

Yes. Lay a Transparent WebM over your clip on the Creator or Pro plan, or download an SRT file on any plan and import it into CapCut on desktop.
