A caption studio vs. an AI video app
Captions bundles captions into a wider AI toolkit: one-tap AI edits, AI actors and digital twins, generated B-roll and music, translation and lip-dubbing, metered by monthly credits (500 on Max, 1,400 on Frontier). Its free version includes one caption template; the 100+ templates come with a paid plan.
Cuecaps puts all of its depth into the captions. Every word sits on an audio waveform where you retime it in 10 ms steps, split it, merge it or mark it for emphasis. All ten presets, 24 fonts, eight entrance animations and five active-word highlight modes are on the Free plan.
What you pay for
- Captions Max: $24.99 a month. Frontier: $69.99 a month (USD, its iOS plan prices).
- Cuecaps Creator: €9 a month or €84 a year, VAT included, with 300 cloud minutes, no watermark, transparent overlays and custom fonts.
- Cuecaps Pro: €19 a month or €180 a year, adding 1440p and 4K export and 1,200 cloud minutes.
On-device transcription and exports are unlimited on every Cuecaps plan, so captioning more videos never uses up credits.
Captions for your editor, not instead of it
Cuecaps exports a burned-in MP4 for TikTok, Reels and Shorts, a transparent MOV or WebM overlay to drop above your edit in Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro or CapCut, or SRT and VTT files. The video renders in your browser and never uploads; only compressed audio goes out when you choose cloud transcription.
Which one to choose
- Choose Captions if you want AI to generate footage, actors, B-roll and edits for you in one app.
- Choose Cuecaps if you edit your own videos and want precise word-by-word captions at a flat price, with no credits to count.
- Choose Cuecaps for client or NDA footage that shouldn't leave your computer.
