Subtitles and captions for interviews

Documentary clips and interviews call for measured, editorial typography rather than flashy pop-in words: calm two-line lower thirds, natural phrase breaks, guest names and organisations spelled accurately, and colour grades left untouched. Cuecaps delivers serif and clean styles across 90+ languages and exports transparent MOV overlays for your NLE, burned-in social cuts, and festival-ready SRT/VTT files.

Restrained, broadcast-style typography

Interview subjects speak in complete thoughts, so captions should carry a full phrase without bouncing around the frame. Editorial sets up to six words across two lines in Instrument Serif, keeping punctuation intact and gently dimming upcoming words until they are spoken; Clean offers subtle shadowed sans-serif captions; Karaoke suits livelier social cut-downs.

Natural breath phrasing and 90+ language transcription

In the Layout panel, select Bottom for a classic 16:9 lower third (or nudge up to ~60% for 4:5 and 9:16 social cuts), and adjust the pause threshold so new captions break naturally when the speaker pauses for breath—or press B on any word to force a manual phrase break.

Before running Cloud transcription (powered by ElevenLabs Scribe v2 across 90+ languages), enter interviewee names, place names and acronyms into the custom vocabulary field so proper nouns are transcribed accurately.

One transcript, three professional deliverables

  • Transparent MOV (PNG alpha) or WebM overlay (on Creator and Pro): drop your styled captions directly onto V2 in Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve or Final Cut Pro over your color-graded master.
  • Burned-in MP4 (up to 4K 60 fps on Pro): export 9:16, 4:5, 1:1 or 16:9 social cut-downs directly from your browser without uploading raw footage.
  • SRT and WebVTT subtitle files: frame-accurate text tracks for festival screeners, broadcast delivery, Vimeo and YouTube.

Every export reads from the same underlying word timeline, so fixing a guest's name once updates your NLE overlay, social cuts and SRT file simultaneously.

Questions

Can I keep punctuation and upper/lower case in my captions?

Yes. The Editorial and Clean presets preserve standard sentence case and punctuation by default, and you can toggle letter case (Normal, UPPERCASE, lowercase) on any style in the Text panel.

Does my unreleased documentary or client interview get uploaded?

Never. Your video stays on your local drive. If you use on-device transcription, nothing leaves your computer at all; if you use Cloud transcription, only compressed speech audio is sent and immediately deleted after transcription.

Can I export captions into DaVinci Resolve or Premiere without re-encoding my graded video?

Yes. On Creator and Pro, export a Transparent MOV (PNG codec with alpha) at your sequence's exact frame rate and place it on the video track above your graded cut.
