Fixing words in the transcript
- Play the clip with the transcript open and click any word that looks wrong.
- Press Enter to edit it and type the right word. Typing a space splits it into two words.
- If the model broke one word in two, select the first part and press M to merge it with the next word.
- Press I to insert a missing word after the selected one, or Del to remove a word nobody said.
- For a name that is wrong every time, open Find and replace in the transcript and click Replace all.
- Press Ctrl+K and run Fix timing, so the edited words sit on the audio again.
The SRT and VTT downloads are built from the same words as the preview, so a word you fix here is fixed in every export.
Prevent mistakes before you transcribe
- On this device is free, keeps the audio in your browser and does best with clear speech. For fast talk, crosstalk or a noisy room, choose Cloud.
- On Cloud, type guest names, your channel name or product names into Names and terms to spell correctly, separated by commas.
- On this device you choose the language yourself. Cloud can detect it, but setting it avoids a wrong guess on a short clip.
Decide before you start editing: Find words again replaces the current words and every edit to them. Your style stays.
What the caption model already fixes
For English transcripts, a small model in your browser fills in punctuation and capitals the speech model left out, so most of your edits are words rather than commas. It never swaps one word for another: a misheard name stays misheard until you correct it.
Questions
Why do auto captions misspell names?
A speech model writes the closest words it knows. A name it never saw in training comes out as a similar-sounding common word or a guessed spelling.
Can I fix the same mistake everywhere at once?
Yes. Open Find and replace in the transcript, type the wrong spelling and the right one, and click Replace all.
Does the names list work on device?
No, it is an option of cloud transcription. On device, fix those words afterwards with Find and replace.
Do I lose my style if I transcribe again?
No. Running Find words again replaces the words and your edits to them, but the style, layout and motion settings stay as they are.
