Editing captions in CapCut
- On a phone: tap a caption clip on the timeline and tap Edit captions. Batch edit lists every line at once, which is quicker for many fixes.
- On desktop: double-click a caption on the timeline, or right-click it and choose to edit captions, then type in the text box.
- Style: select one caption, change the font or colour, and apply it to all captions.
- Timing: drag either end of a caption clip on the timeline to change when it shows.
- Wrong language: delete the captions, open Auto captions, choose the language spoken and generate them again.
CapCut moves these buttons around between versions, so the labels on your phone may differ slightly.
Why CapCut gets words wrong
Names, slang, brand words and speech over music are where any speech model slips, and CapCut's help page points to clearer audio for better results. When one name is wrong in every line, fixing it caption by caption is the slow part.
Editing captions in Cuecaps instead
In Cuecaps the transcript is a list of words rather than caption blocks, so every fix touches exactly one word.
- Add your clip to the studio, set Language in the Find words dialog and transcribe.
- Click a wrong word and press Enter to type over it; a space splits it in two, and M merges it with the next word.
- Use Find and replace for a name the model gets wrong every time.
- Press Ctrl+K and run Fix timing, then export the MP4, or a Transparent WebM to finish the edit in CapCut.
Caption breaks, words per caption and the highlight style are kept apart from the words, so editing a word never resets the look. For English, an on-device model also breaks captions at natural phrase boundaries and fills in missing punctuation.
Transparent WebM is a Creator and Pro feature. The burned-in MP4 and the SRT download work on a free account, and free videos carry a small Made with cuecaps.com mark.

Questions
How do I edit all CapCut captions at once?
Use Batch edit on a phone to see every caption in one list, and apply a text style to all captions from the style settings.
Why can't I edit my CapCut captions?
Make sure the caption clip is selected rather than the video under it, and that CapCut is up to date, since the caption tools move between versions.
How do I change the language of CapCut auto captions?
Delete the existing captions, open Auto captions, pick the spoken language and generate again. Edits made to the old captions are lost.
Can I change a word after exporting from Cuecaps?
Yes. The project stays in the studio, so you can fix the word and export again.
