Captions for software tutorials

In a software tutorial or how-to video, the screen recording is the lesson—captions must never block the menu, node graph or shortcut you are demonstrating, and technical terms must be spelled accurately. Cuecaps lets you lock compact single-line captions into an empty UI band, pre-load software terminology before transcribing, and export both vertical Shorts MP4s and full-length YouTube SRTs.

Compact, high-contrast styles over dense software UIs

Screen captures from Blender, VS Code, Figma or Premiere are full of tiny grey labels and dense toolbars that make unboxed text unreadable. Boxed puts crisp dark text on a solid white pill that reads cleanly over any interface; Clean and Bold work well over darker viewport areas.

Under Layout, lock Lines to One line and drag the caption bar to whichever edge of your software is static (such as the top viewport header when demonstrating a bottom timeline).

Spelling tool names, hotkeys and version numbers right

Generic speech models constantly mangle software jargon, modifier keys and plugin names. Before starting Cloud transcription, type your exact terms into the custom vocabulary box—for example Geometry Nodes, Subsurface Scattering, Ctrl+Shift+B or useEffect—so the transcriber spells them your way.

Click Auto-pick in the transcript panel to automatically emphasise spoken numbers, parameter values and version numbers so viewers following along can spot exact settings at a glance.

Built by a Blender tutorial creator for this exact workflow

Cuecaps was originally built to caption Blender 3D tutorial Shorts (@Pantheon3D)—the cloth-simulation demo clip on our homepage is a real tutorial project. One project gives you a burned-in 9:16 Short and a clean SRT subtitle track for your long-form YouTube tutorial.

  1. Drop your edited screen recording into Cuecaps.
  2. Enter your software's tool names and shortcuts in the vocabulary box and run Find words.
  3. Select Boxed or Clean, set Lines to One line, and position the caption clear of your cursor action.
  4. Export the MP4 for Shorts/Reels and the SRT/VTT files for YouTube CC.

Questions

How do I keep captions from covering menus or code in my screen recording?

Set your layout to a single line and drag the caption directly on the preview canvas to an unused area of your software window (such as the top bar or viewport corner).

How do I stop the transcriber from misspelling software terms and shortcuts?

Paste your software's tool names, node names and keyboard shortcuts into the custom names & terms box before running Cloud transcription, then use Find and Replace if you want to standardize formatting across the whole transcript.

Can I caption a 45-minute long-form tutorial for YouTube?

Yes. Cloud transcription supports files up to four hours long, and you can export clean SRT and VTT files for free.
